The Lincoln Highway Coalition announces the installation of the second Lincoln Highway Interpretive Mural for the City of Rochelle, Illinois. The Coalition is honored to have the opportunity to display the 35th and final mural of their series in Rochelle. This mural will be displayed on the wall of the Trans World Plastic Films, Incorporated building located 150 North 15th Street. The installation is scheduled for the afternoon of October 10, 2013, weather permitting. Rochelle’s first mural was part of the original pilot program for the project. The series features 35 large scale hand-painted murals located in over two dozen communities along the 179-mile Illinois byway corridor.

It was only fitting that a second mural in Rochelle would portray historic elements of transportation. With the development of the Lincoln Highway through Rochelle, major transportation arteries crisscrossed helping to make it known as the “Hub City”, an important crossroads for commerce and tourism. The mural is painted in rich sepia tones and designed from a vintage Rochelle postcard that was obtained from Rochelle Tourism, depicting the Chicago and Northwestern Railroads. A striking image of the Rochelle built Partin-Palmer automobile has been expertly added into the mural, along with a full color red, white and blue Lincoln Highway “L” sign.
